Those of you taking part into the Master Meat Crafter Training Program may have some questions related to your payments, lodging, and transportation in and around Madison.

What are my payment options for the MMC Training Program?
Payments for the MMC Program can be done one of two ways: you can either pay the entire $9,000 at once via check or our registration portal, or you can pay $1,125 in eight quarterly installments over the course of the 2-year program.

Whatever option you choose (check or credit card), we ask that you still register your name and choice of payment plan within the registration portal so we can confirm you’ll be attending. Please note that any other courses listed in the registration portal are not necessarily required for MMC candidates – that is simply where we list all of our workshops & short courses.

Payment deadlines for the eight quarterly payments are: 12/31/21, 3/31/22, 6/30/22, 9/30/22, 12/31/22, 3/31/23, 6/30/23, 9/30/23.

When should I book my flights to and from Madison?
We suggest all traveling MMC candidates plan to be in town from the night before the first day of each workshop (in this case, January 10th for the first class on January 11th, 2022). The workshops start at 8am on day one and will end at 3pm on the 3rd day – so we suggest candidates either plan any departure flights after 5pm on the last day of each workshop (factoring in the time it takes to get to the hotel, airport, and go through security) or stay one additional night.

Where is the MSABD building located on campus, and where can I find nearby parking?
The Meat Science & Animal Biologics Discovery building is located at 1933 Observatory Drive, Madison, WI 53706, and nearby parking is available right next-door in Lot 67 (2002 Linden Drive) or just down the road in Lot 36 (1645 Observatory Drive).

Rates for Lots 67 & 36 are $1 per 30 minutes for the first 3 hours, and $1/hour thereafter. The maximum rate for the day is $15.

Do you recommend any nearby hotels? Do you provide group reservation rates?
While lodging is the responsibility of the candidates, we do work with DoubleTree by Hilton to provide 3-day room blocks. That said, when we plan these blocks, we do so for the night before the workshop starts until the night before the last day – so it is also the responsibility of the candidate to ensure they book a 4th night if needed.

Do I need to schedule transportation to and from the airport? Will there be transportation for the workshops and additional MMC-related events?
While we provide bus service between the DoubleTree by Hilton and the MSABD building during the workshops and connected events, we do not provide transportation to and from the local airport (Dane County Regional Airport / Truax Field).

When it comes to arrivals and departures, the Best Western Inntowner Plus and DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton both offer shuttle service to/from the airport. Though we can’t speak for Covid-related shortages, rental cars have been available at Madison’s airport in years past – and Uber, Lyft, cabs, and buses are widely available in Madison as well.

Additionally, our MMC bus *only* runs from the DoubleTree by Hilton to the MSABD building. If you choose to stay at another hotel, you’ll need to provide your own transportation. The DoubleTree by Hilton is only able to transport their hotel guests per their insurance policy.
